Senior Counsel, Product - Zoom

Bay Area: Silicon Valley

Our client, Zoom, is looking for a Senior Product Counsel to join their rapidly growing legal team. Reporting directly to the Deputy General Counsel of Product and Marketing, this person will join the dynamic and innovative Product Legal Team. The Product Legal Team drives the legal agenda for Zoom’s product and marketing teams by leveraging proactive client engagement throughout the product life cycle. We advise our business teams on how to design, build, release, and market Zoom’s services with a focus on privacy, security, global compliance, simplicity, and our customers’ success

Specifically, Zoom is seeking an experienced attorney to advise business executives and marketing stakeholders on a range of consumer product issues, marketing and advertising compliance, privacy, analytics and data usage, strategic brand partnerships, customer communications, and e-commerce issues arising from our website properties that market our services as well as support and allow access to our services platform. We are looking for a legal subject matter expert to lead Zoom’s website marketing and e-commerce initiatives globally, as well as assisting with adtech issues across all of our products, including apps and marketplace services. This involves closely partnering with the business to proactively provide practical, trusted guidance, including counseling on regulatory compliance, contractual obligations, and reputational risk. Deep familiarity with globally applicable e-commerce, advertising, consumer and privacy regulations is critical. This role works with other members of the Product Legal Team to ensure the strategy and initiatives of each product line are appropriately reflected in our marketing, website and online contracting activities. It is responsible for advising business stakeholders on all significant regulatory and compliance issues related to Zoom’s online marketing and e-commerce initiatives, as well as drafting, reviewing, and executing complex agreements involving marketing partnerships and other marketing activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Be an integral part of the product legal function for Zoom.
  • Partner with website product and marketing teams to understand product, engineering, design, and operational implications of new products and initiatives and create the website content and communications copy to describe them.
  • Advise multiple stakeholders across marketing, product, engineering and business development throughout the product development cycle on new products and the implementation of technological solutions.
  • Understand and stay up to date on U.S. and international laws and regulations related to Zoom’s website marketing and e-commerce initiatives, including laws and regulations related to ecommerce, adtech, customer communications, online contracting, data usage,  privacy and security.
  • Explain complex legal issues in basic terms for the company.
  • Provide pragmatic day to day and strategic advice to minimize legal risks while advancing business goals and initiatives to meet marketing success metrics.
  • Draft clear and concise public facing disclosures, disclaimers, terms of use, website content, or other public facing documents and statements for our customers.
  • Review, draft and negotiate all types of agreements, including inbound, outbound, infrastructure, and partnership agreements.
  • Design, build, and improve legal department processes to keep up with hyper growth.

Requirements:

  • 7+ years relevant experience; admitted to the Bar.
  • In-house experience at a technology company with product and commercial counsel experience at a SaaS company strongly preferred. Significant customer interaction that provides a customer-centric view of marketing activities and how they connect to sales success a plus.
  • Significant experience in the eCommerce, marketing, customer communication, and adtech spaces.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively across cross-functional teams and build consensus among stakeholders
  • Passion to work in collaborative team environment with an attitude to deliver happiness
  • Extremely organized with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, multi-task, adjust to rapidly changing priorities, and drive strategic projects to successful delivery.
  • Sense of humor, excellent interpersonal skills, business judgment, strategic thinking, superior work ethic, flexibility and ability to work independently
  • Experience supporting product teams across multiple areas of subject matter expertise a plus
  • Ability to quickly issue spot and appropriately prioritize risk and outcomes a must
