Senior Product Counsel, Advertising - Zoom

Bay Area: Silicon Valley

Our client, Zoom, is looking for a Senior Product Counsel to join their rapidly growing legal team. Reporting directly to the Deputy General Counsel of Product, this person will join the Product Legal Team. The Product Legal Team helps drive the digital agenda for Zoom through proactive client engagement. We advise teams on how to design, build and release products with a focus on data, intellectual property, regulatory compliance, and successful market entry. We manage regulatory, brand and litigation risk across all of our products.  

Specifically, Zoom is seeking a Senior Product Counsel to advise business executives and technology stakeholders on a range of consumer product, technology, privacy, marketing and advertising technology (martech/adtech), and eCommerce issues arising from our website properties that support and access our services platform, and the marketing activities around them. This involves counseling on regulatory compliance including California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), international contracting, advertising, tax and privacy laws, data handling, such as EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), e-Privacy Regulation, and other global privacy laws in Asia and Latin America, pricing and packaging initiatives, and marketing practices that include third party advertising partners.. You will also act as a liaison with other members of the Zoom Legal Department to assist with their adtech and marketing strategies and you will work with other members of the Product Legal Team to ensure the strategy and initiatives of each product line are appropriately reflected in the marketing and website activities. You will be responsible for advising business stakeholders on all significant regulatory and compliance issues related to Zoom’s online marketing and e-commerce initiatives, as well as assisting with adtech issues across all of our products, including websites, apps, and marketplace services. You will also assist with drafting, reviewing, and executing complex agreements involving marketing partnerships, data management, cookies, digital advertising, e-commerce programs and business models, consumer retention , etc. You will ensure compliance with our policies in this growing and complicated regulatory space.

Responsibilities:

  • Be an integral part of the product legal function for Zoom.  
  • Partner with product teams to understand product, engineering, design, and operational implications of new products and initiatives.  
  • Advise multiple stakeholders across marketing, product, engineering and business development throughout the product development cycle on new products and the implementation of technological solutions.  
  • Understand and stay up to date on U.S. and international laws and regulations related to platforms, including laws and regulations related to eCommerce, martech, adtech, data privacy and security.  
  • Ability to explain complex legal issues in basic terms for the company.
  • Provide pragmatic day to day and strategic advice to minimize legal risks while advancing business goals and initiatives.  
  • Ability to draft clear and concise public facing disclosures, disclaimers, terms of use or other public facing documents for our customers.
  • Review, draft and negotiate all types of agreements, including inbound, outbound, infrastructure, and partnership agreements.
  • Design, build, and improve legal department processes to keep up with hyper growth.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years relevant experience; JD from top law school; admitted to the Bar.
  • In-house experience at a technology company with product counsel experience at a SaaS company strongly preferred.
  • Significant experience in the eCommerce, martech and adtech spaces.  
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively across cross-functional teams and build consensus among stakeholders
  • Passion to work in collaborative team environment with an attitude to deliver happiness
  • Extremely organized with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, multi-task, adjust to rapidly changing priorities, and drive strategic projects to successful delivery.
  • Sense of humor, excellent interpersonal skills, business judgment, strategic thinking, superior work ethic, flexibility and ability to work independently
  • Experience supporting product teams across multiple areas of subject matter expertise a plus.
  • Ability to quickly issue spot and appropriately prioritize risk and outcomes a must.
