Associate General Counsel – DataStax

Our client, DataStax, is seeking an Associate General Counsel.

The Role: Due to their continued growth, DataStax is seeking an outstanding Associate General Counsel. Ideal individual will handle broad range of legal matters while managing contractual agreements in support of our sales teams focusing on the West and Mid-West regions. Reporting to the General Counsel, this person will also assist with LATAM agreements and handle Product, Employment, Privacy, and Marketing issues as needed. We are looking for a well-rounded individual with high EQ, positive attitude and creative problem-solving skills to join this small, dynamic legal team.


  • Work with Sales teams and lead the negotiation and drafting of all outbound agreements for the West and Mid-West-Regions; support LATAM as needed.
  • Providing timely support to the Sales organization and other cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Draft, review and negotiate a variety of other commercial and corporate agreements, including customer contracts, vendor contracts, and software and SaaS licensing agreements.
  • Support the Product team with new product launches, drafting terms of service, and advising on privacy, compliance and intellectual property issues.
  • Manage and update the legal team’s PlayBook and create new agreement templates as needed.
  • Advise the People Team on various employment law issues.
  • Research and evaluate risk to provide proactive, practical advice with a view towards advancing business goals.
  • Advise on partnership and business development deals, including channel and OEM partner relationships.
  • Collaborate effectively across the organization to drive operational excellence.
  • Ad hoc projects as required to advise global cross-functional teams.


  • JD from an ABA-accredited law school and admission to practice in at least one US jurisdiction.
  • 8+ years of legal experience at a technology company and/or a respected technology law firm handling complex technology transactions, including experience with software and SaaS licensing.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts with enterprises and government organizations that have large-company procurement and compliance standards.
  • Experience providing legal support to Product and/or engineering teams.  
  • Employment experience or desire to handle HR matters is a plus.
  • Experience supporting partnership and business development deals.
  • Familiarity and interest in issues relating to software licensing, SaaS business models, open source software, IP, and data privacy.
  • Demonstrate exceptional client service skills.
  • Thrive in a dynamic, distributed environment by practicing effective time management, prioritization, and communication.
