Product/Compliance Counsel

Responsibilities:

• Address and resolve the novel and complex legal and business issues that confront a fast-growing, late-stage, venture-backed Web 2.0 company.

• Overall responsibility for counseling product team members and others as the company develops and implements new products and features across many legal subject areas including IP, privacy, security, content regulation, marketing, advertising, and consumer protection.

• Handle compliance issues including privacy; product; advertising; IP; legal and corporate policies website abuse; user-generated content issues; international, e-commerce and other issues that arise.

• Engage with the product and marketing teams and handle dispute resolution and litigation management.

Requirements:

• Substantial Web 2.0/Internet experience, with product, marketing, IP and privacy focus.

• Ability to identify and resolve legal and business issues, balance competing demands from all functional areas, and earn the confidence and cooperation of business people.

• Current member and in good standing of the California State Bar.

• JD from top law school or top 10% of the class.

• At least 7 years experience at both a top tier law firm and corporate legal department.

• Previous experience developing and implementing systems that scale.

• Previous experience managing others.

• Must be a self-motivated team player with the ability to think strategically, work independently, and drive multiple projects simultaneously.

• Must possess high standards, impeccable integrity, unquestionable good judgment, well-honed analytical skills, superior oral and written communications skills and a keen sense of humor.

• Ability to communicate effectively and build strong partnerships with employees at all levels within the company.

• Litigation and international experience a plus.
